Henry Cavill is ready to play Superman again for a Man of Steel sequel

A lot of people all across the globe would love to see Henry Cavill suit up Superman again for a Man of Steel sequel, including Cavill himself. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill revealed that “The cape is still in the closet” and that Superman remains a character that’s close to his heart. Cavill says “there is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity” to play the character again.

In addition to saying that he’d be down to leap a Man of Steel sequel in a single bound, Cavill talked about the controversial scene in 2013’s Man of Steel in which Superman kills the power-hungry Zod, played by Michael Shannon.

“Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward — I don’t think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had. I did far more emotional takes they didn’t choose; tears were happening.”

Though the scene was a point of contention for many fans of the iconic character, Cavill insists that it could serve as a turning point for the Man of Steel and that it led to the Kryptonian hero making a personal vow to never kill again.

“The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again,” Cavill told THR. “There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside.”

While Cavill remains passionate about the character, Warner Bros. has stated on numerous occasions that they’re moving on from the “Snyderverse.” Does this mean that Cavill won’t be returning as the Man of Steel sometime down the line? Not necessarily, but it could be a while before an opportunity for Cavill to reprise the role presents itself. At the very least, it’s nice to know that Cavill is ready and willing to play the character again, should the opportunity arise. I’ll admit that his version of Superman has grown on me throughout the years, and I’d be very excited to hear that he’s coming back.
