It was well over a year and a half ago when we first heard that HANNA writer Seth Lochhead had been tapped to script the adaptation of the videogame hit SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS, later learning that CHRONICLE director Josh Trank had attached to the project to helm. Trank eventually got too busy to focus on the film (and was tapped to helm the FANTASTIC FOUR reboot for Fox) and now Deadline is reporting that MAMA helmer Andres Muschietti is taking the reins on the adaptation of the acclaimed Playstation video game bestseller.
Now I admittedly don't know much about video games (I suck at playing them so I avoid angering myself by staying away from game consoles), but SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS sounds pretty intriguing and could make for a cool flick. Here's the synopsis:
The protagonist of the original action-adventure game is a young man who thinks his lover has died. Desperate to bring her back, he heads into a forbidden land, and summons a demon who can wake the dead. The price for bringing back his girl: slay 16 colossi that dominate this mystical place.
Joining Misher Films’ Kevin Misher as producer will be Muschietti’s sister, MAMA producer and co-writer Barbara Muschietti.
Muschietti did a bang-up job on MAMA so I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what he can do with this material. More on SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS as we hear it.
