Majority of Aquaman will be shown in IMAX special formatting

You can watch any of the AQUAMAN trailers and be bombarded with plenty of comic book moments featuring big sea creatures, warring factions and Jason Momoa’s biceps. A movie like that needs to be seen in IMAX, and if you do you’re in for a treat, because it’s been confirmed that most of the movie will be shown in full-blown IMAX aspect ratio, meaning you’ll be fully immersed in that sweet underwater action from start to finish.

This tidbit of information surfaced the other day when director James Wan took to Twitter to answer a fan question regarding how much of the movie will be in the full IMAX aspect ratio (which covers the full screen with no black bars). He replied, saying, “Roughly 90%. Nearly the whole movie. Seriously.” That’s a lot of full-screen sharks and flowing underwater hair to see, and now a new press release has confirmed that indeed a massive chunk of the movie will be in the special formatting.

The press release gave an official amount of time the movie will be in the formatting, with a whopping 92 minutes of this two-hour movie (give or take) being in its big, beautiful glory. In the end, that’s 26 percent more Aquaman and sea monster teeth for audiences to admire.

This is not foreign territory for a big blockbuster movie, especially in the superhero realm. Only ten years ago this would’ve seemed impossible, as Christopher Nolan shot 30 minutes of THE DARK KNIGHT in IMAX, which then was the boldest move ever. Now, in 2018, audiences who went to see AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR in IMAX saw much of the movie in the expanded format. This kind of tech will only get more intense, as movies in the future, like, say the AVATAR sequels, could have virtually the entire movie shown in full-screen IMAX.  Don't think for a second James Cameron wouldn't do it.
