Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman's upcoming streaming service Quibi continues stocking up on horror and thriller projects as its April 2020 unveiling draws closer. The latest such project to be added to the service's slate is The Stranger, created by Veena Sud.
Sud also serves as writer, director, and executive producer on The Stranger, which will follow
an unassuming young rideshare driver who is thrown into her worst nightmare when a mysterious Hollywood Hills passenger enters her car. Her terrifying ride with the stranger unfolds over 12 hours as she navigates the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles in a chilling game of cat and mouse.
Maika Monroe of THE GUEST and IT FOLLOWS has signed on to star in the program, and her co-stars will include Dane DeHaan and Avan Jogia.
Quibi gets its name from the fact that it will offer "quick bites" of entertainment. Intended to be watched on your smart phone while you're on the go, episodes of Quibi shows will be in the range of 10 minutes or less.
Other genre projects in the works at Quibi are Steven Spielberg's After Dark, Alexandre Aja's manga adaptation Tomie, Sam Raimi's 50 States of Fear, Blumhouse's FATAL ATTRACTION-inspired Wolves and Villagers, and a zombie show from Guillermo del Toro.
I still don't know if I'm going to sign up for Quibi, but they're doing a good job of assembling projects that I would like to watch.
