After a buzz-worthy debut, and a mediocre second season, HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE is looking to win audience members back when its third season arrives on HBO come January 13, 2019. Today, HBO has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming events, which follows Mahershala Ali's Detective Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas who finds himself trapped in grim mystery in the Ozarks alongside his co-stars, Carmen Ejogo (SELMA, IT COMES AT NIGHT) and Stephen Dorff (BLADE, IMMORTALS). When the new season kicks off, Dorff will play Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator. Meanwhile, Ejogo will arrive as Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980. Mamie Gummer (THE WARD, SIDE EFFECTS) and Scoot McNairy (ARGO, MONSTERS) also star as parents torn apart by a series of child-related crimes.
In the new trailer, we bear witness to Detective Hays being ravaged by time, as the missing pieces to a cryptic case consume him. While the priority of the story is to uncover the truth behind the children's mysterious disappearance, TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3 will also hold a magnifying glass to themes of obsession and desperation, as well as the horrors of the human condition.
In addition to being hailed as a return to form for the series, an intriguing band of directors are also coming aboard the new season. As an example, Jeremy Saulnier (GREEN ROOM, BLUE RUIN) will direct the first two episodes, while Daniel Sackheim (THE GLASS HOUSE, THE WALKING DEAD) will helm the remaining six, which he's chosen to share with series creator/executive producer Nic Pizzolatto – as a part of his directorial debut. Meanwhile, Pizzolatto will be joined in his role as an executive producer on the program by Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, and Richard Brown.
TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3 will make its HBO debut on January 13, 2019.
