Mad Max: Fury Road sequel beginning to rev its engines?

Yesterday we passed along the sad news that Paramount had officially pulled the plug on director David Fincher's big-budget zombie movie sequel to WORLD WAR Z starring Brad Pitt after years of development. That was weak-ass news, but today we have a light of hope for another (better) franchise in the form of a follow-up to George Miller's masterpiece MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Fandango head honcho Erik Davis took to Twitter to let us all know that as far as he has heard, while Fincher's WORLD WAR Z 2 is dead in the water, MAD MAX: WASTELANDS (or whatever it's being called now) is "beginning to rev its engines." Specifically, he writes:

WORLD WAR Z 2 officially dead and not happening… BUT… I'm hearing whispers of another sequel that's beginning to rev its engines…

Sure he doesn't come right out a say that he's talking about another MAD MAX movie, but wait, yeah he does as he posted a picture from FURY ROAD to go with the tweet. Now it's only a matter of whether or not we can trust this Fandango fellow. I'm choosing to believe him at this time if for no other reason than I need more MAD MAX in my life. Even if it's merely half as good as FURY ROAD, it will still be one of the best action movies of all time.

Here's the synopsis for MAD MAX FURY ROAD:

Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot's five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD was directed by George Miller from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produced the movie with Doug Mitchell and PJ Voeten. It starred Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoe Kravitz, Abbey Lee, and Courtney Eaton. If you don't already own a copy of the film on Blu-ray you can snag one HERE.
