Many may have been hoping not to hear that the reboot of John Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is moving forward, but I have good and bad news for them. The bad news is that the flick is looking to tap a screenwriter, so it's definitely making steps to squeeze into theaters.
The good news is that the screenwriter they're tapping is Neil Cross, the man behind the popular BBC series Luther, starring Idris Elba. He also penned the screenplay for MAMA, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but proves that he has experience in genre filmmaking. Plus, the worst thing about MAMA certainly wasn't the script.
There is no production date planned yet, but John Carpenter is executive producing the reboot so hardcore fans can hold onto that to help them unclench their buttcheeks when it's finally announced. More news from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK as it breaks!
