Earlier this year we watched Lupita Nyong'o take on an invasion of murderous doppelgangers in the Jordan Peele movie US, and next month we will watch her take on a more classic sort of invasion in LITTLE MONSTERS. A new red-band trailer has dropped for the zombie comedy, wherein the Oscar-winner plays a schoolteacher, Miss Caroline, trying to keep her children safe from an undead outbreak, one which features plenty blood, guts and lots and lots of no-no words.

Directed by Abe Forsythe and co-starring Alexander England and Josh Gad, MONSTERS debuted at Sundance earlier this year, and people seem to have been talking and raving about it ever since. The trailers have showcased plenty of the gruesome kills and black humor, with what looks like another winning Nyong’o performance at the center (because of course). Gad looks great too as the children's entertainer who drops the facade when the little kids start biting at his face, and overall there looks to be an excellent balance of gore and pure sweetness, which isn't something we often get from the genre.
Here's the synopsis:
LITTLE MONSTERS follows Dave (Alexander England), a washed-up musician who volunteers to chaperone his nephew’s kindergarten class field trip after taking a serious liking to the fearless schoolteacher, Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o). Dave’s intentions are complicated by the presence of the world’s most famous kids’ show personality and competition for Miss Caroline’s affections, Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad). One thing none of them bargained for, however, is a sudden zombie outbreak. Will Dave rise to the occasion and have a chance at Miss Caroline’s heart, or will the zombies get there first?
Anyone who wants to see the movie with a crowd (which seems like the smart option here) can hunt it down during a limited theatrical run starting October 8, or you can wait for it to hit Hulu on October 11.
