The Wrap is reporting Luke Wilson is in talks to play NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in Sony's untitled drama about the effects of concussions in football players. Peter Landesman (PARKLAND) is directing the film, and it'll be produced by Ridley Scott, who was originally attached to helm the project.
If Wilson does agree to join the Sony movie, he'll star alongside a very solid cast that includes Will Smith (as forensic neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu), Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks, Paul Reiser, David Morse, Arliss Howard, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Peter Landesman's film will be based on the GQ article “Game Brain” by Jeanne Marie Laskas, and has been compared to Michael Mann's THE INSIDER, which took on the tobacco industry and its attempts at covering up the cancer-causing effects of cigarette smoke.
While Luke Wilson doesn't look exactly like Roger Goodell, I think he'll do a good job playing the commissioner. I wouldn't say I'm a huge NFL fan (I'll check the scores, but I don't need to watch every game), however I'm still interested in checking out the planned film.
