I don't know about you but I'm quite okay with the idea of a reboot of THE CROW, especially with Luke Evans in the lead role. But Evans understands the trepidation many fans of both the comics and the excellent 1994 film starring Brandon Lee may have with a new take on the character. Evans recently sat down with TotalFilm to talk up the reboot, taking time to reassure fans that the filmmakers are keen on remaining faithful to the source material, stating…
The script is brilliant. (Cliff) Dorfman has been writing it and we're still tweeking it now. What we want to do with is is not just do a remake…the original was brilliant. What we want to is tell the story and bring parts of the original source material into the film that wasn't done the first time around. There's an awful lot of characters that were never put in the first movie. We're trying to keep it as true to the original story as possible.
We have a fantastic team of people on it. Javier Gutierrez is a wonderful, wonderful sensitive director who cares so much about telling the story rightly and beautifully and sensitively. I think that people who love the comic book character and the journey that Eric Draven goes on and The Crow goes on will be really happy with what we're doing. It'll be a real joy for anyone who loved the film. I love the story because it's very loyal to that."
The 34-year-old Welshman – whose FAST & FURIOUS co-star Paul Walker died in a car accident last month – also spoke with Metro.uk, sharing that he does not fear suffering the same fate as Brandon Lee after he was accidentally shot dead on the set of the 1994 original.
‘I’m not one of those superstitious people. It is incredibly sad that Brendon died making the movie. He was a very talented actor. It is a very beautiful story, The Crow. It is a very tragic story with huge emotional themes. We plan to tell the story differently and with a lot of integrity to the original comic book.’
Set to be directed by Javier Gutierrez, THE CROW features a script by Cliff Dorfman. Series creator James O'Barr will also work as a consultant on the film, which is said to begin production in 2014. No release date is currently set.
