If you were hoping for a Luke Cage revival, you may be out of luck. While the Daredevil rights finally going back to Marvel have given hope to Charlie Cox once again playing the "man without fear", Mike Colter says that any such talks about Luke Cage haven't even been addressed.
The actor has confirmed that he has had no talks "whatsoever" with Marvel since Luke Cage was canceled by Netflix:
"I got to say, I rarely think about it in the sense of what could be or will be, I know fans are eager to see something with the character. I know I established him and it was an honor to do that, but I don't know what the future holds, I'm just in my mode of doing Evil right now and a few films on hiatus. If something happens, I'd love to have a conversation with them, but for now I'm not holding my breath, I'm happy either way, it was a good run."
Mike Colter has certainly moved on to his latest series Evil, which airs on CBS. The show, which is headed into its second season, follows a skeptical female clinical psychologist that joins a priest in training and a blue-collar contractor as they investigate supposed miracles, demonic possession, and other extraordinary occurrences to see if there's a scientific explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work. It's good to see the actor in another series regular role but I still mourn the loss of Luke Cage and the other Marvel Netflix shows because most of them were pulled in their prime. Netflix pulled the plug on Luke Cage back in October of 2018, and while the rights to the character have now reverted back to Marvel, there were alleged contractual obligations between themselves and Netflix that meant Luke Cage could not be revisited for a certain amount of time. This time had now elapsed and that's why fans have held out hope for Colter to return but that appears to not be in the cards.
Luke Cage followed the evolution of the character as he becomes a hero-for-hire and tries to rebuild a quiet life in Harlem, New York. The show was a gritty action-packed drama that fit in well with the likes of the other Netflix Marvel series like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. All two seasons of Luke Cage were well-received by critics and audiences alike while Colter's depiction of Cage was deemed a solid representation of the character. Colter also brought the character to the limited series The Defenders.
Do YOU think Mike Colter should get another go at playing Luke Cage?
