Cancelled after three seasons on Fox, the television series Lucifer found new life on the Netflix streaming service, where it has continued with more seasons. Netflix was planning to end the show after season 5, but recently ordered a sixth season – which is again being referred to as the final season. Maybe this time the "final season" idea will stick, and 6 does sound like the perfect number for Lucifer to end on.
While the second half of season 5 has yet to reach Netflix, season 6 is already in production, and the names of two new cast members have been announced. Joining the show's ten episode final season are Merrin Dungey (Alias, The King of Queens, Big Little Lies) and Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool, Tragedy Girls, the Exorcist TV show).
Based on characters created for DC Comics' Vertigo by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as
the devil, who grows bored with reigning over hell and abandons his post for Los Angeles, where he runs a nightclub and becomes a consultant to the LAPD.
Lauren German, DB Woodside, Dennis Haysbert, Kevin Alejandro, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aimee Garcia, Inbar Levi, and Graham McTavish are also in the cast.
New addition Dungey will be playing Sonya, "a no-nonsense uniform cop who forms an unlikely bond with Amenadiel (Woodside)".
Hildebrand is taking on the role of Rory, "a rebellious, angsty, and ready-to-start-some-trouble angel" who looks up to Lucifer, but will come to realize "Lucifer isn't exactly the devilish big bro she hoped he'd be".
When I write about TV shows, I often have to note that I have never actually watched the show myself. That's not true of Lucifer, because I recently watched the first two episodes! Those episodes didn't help me understand why the show is so popular, but I've been told I'll understand if I continue watching.
