Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors rumored to play Kang in Ant-Man 3

Jonathan Majors, Kang the Conqueror, Ant-Man 3

After a breakout role in HBO's LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, Jonathan Majors has landed his biggest role to date as a major character in the upcoming third ANT-MAN film. While the specifics of the character have not been announced, Deadline claims sources have Majors portraying the villainous Kang the Conqueror.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Kang, he is a time-traveler from the distant future. While possessing no superhuman powers, he is known throughout the Marvel Universe as a genius and physicist with a spacecraft capable of traveling through time. He also sports advanced battle armor that upon storing energy, can convert that power into super strength. Think Iron Man but evil, and more of a pain in the ass for the Avengers than Tony Stark.

Kang has most often been portrayed as a foil for The Avengers and it is unclear whether he will follow his comic book past on the big screen. Marvel Studios is notorious for shaking up character origins and motivations in their films. Kang could end up as an anti-hero or even follow the path of Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo, who went from ally in DOCTOR STRANGE to nemesis by the end of the movie.

Jonathan Majors has seen his star rise quickly. After appearing in the film HOSTILES and the series When We Rise in 2017, Majors appeared in WHITE BOY RICK and CAPTIVE STATE before his turn in Spike Lee's DA 5 BLOODS opposite the late Chadwick Boseman. Lovecraft Country has been a critical smash on HBO and Majors is a, well, major reason why.

It remains to be seen just who Majors will play in ANT-MAN 3 but the third entry in the Paul Rudd/Evangeline Lilly franchise is shaping up to take things to the next level.
