Hulu is showing some big love for Love, Victor. The streaming service has renewed the beloved series for a third season. The news comes after the second season of the YA teen dramedy aired in June.
Hulu does not release traditional viewership data like other streamers but there is a strong indication that Love, Victor has performed well on the platform. The series, from This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger who also wrote the screenplay for Love, Simon, has maintained a strong audience reaction. Season two has a 100 percent fresh rating among critics and 92 percent score with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
Love, Victor follows the events of the critically acclaimed coming-of-age film Love, Simon. "Love, Victor tells the story of Victor Salazar (Michael Cimino) – a new student at Creekwood High who has just moved with his family from rural Texas to Atlanta. On top of all the usual high school pressures of making friends and fitting in, Victor is still figuring out his sexuality – a tricky subject in his religious family. Reaching out to Simon for advice, Victor slowly but surely learns to be his authentic self and to trust the message from the film – that everyone deserves a great love story." The series also stars Rachel Hilson, Anthony Turpel, Bebe Wood, Mason Gooding, George Sear, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, James Martinez, and Ana Ortiz.
Love, Simon, directed by Greg Berlanti, was released in 2018 and is based on the novel "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens" by Becky Albertalli. The film starred Nick Robinson, Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Logan Miller, and Keiynan Lonsdale. In the film, Simon Spier (Robinson) is a closeted gay high school student who struggles to balance his friends, his family, and the blackmailer threatening to out him to the entire school. As all of this is going on, Simon is attempting to discover the identity of the anonymous classmate with whom he has fallen in love with online. Love, Simon was notable as the first film by a major Hollywood studio to focus on a gay teenage romance and it was a hit with critics and moviegoers. Carrying a $17 million budget, Love, Simon grossed $66.3 million worldwide and the film carries a 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Love, Victor exists in the same universe but also makes itself stand out by featuring a primarily LatinX cast.
