The first season of the Spanish-language horror comedy series Los Espookys debuted back in 2019, and while the second season was substantially delayed by the pandemic, it’s still coming our way. Los Espookys season 2 is scheduled to finally premiere on HBO on September 16th, and a trailer for the season has arrived online to get us ready for the show’s return. You can check it out in the embed above.
Created by Julio Torres, Ana Fabrega, and Saturday Night Live veteran Fred Armisen, Los Espookys is set “in a strange and dreamy version of present day Mexico City” and follows
a group of horror genre-loving friends who are using their passion to turn a profit. Horror and gore enthusiast Renaldo starts a horror-for-hire business in present-day Mexico City with his friends Úrsula, her sister Tati, and Andres — better known as Los Espookys.
Torres and Fabrega star in the show with Bernardo Velasco, Cassandra Cangherotti, and José Pablo Minor. Armisen is also part of the cast.
Here’s the synopsis for Los Espookys season 2:
Season two finds our charismatic LOS ESPOOKYS leader and gore enthusiast, Renaldo (Bernardo Velasco), haunted by the ghost of a beauty pageant queen, while Úrsula (Cassandra Ciangherotti), enlists an old acquaintance to challenge the political status quo. Úrsula’s well-meaning sister, Tati (Ana Fabrega), is adjusting to her life as a newlywed, while balancing a new gig, and Renaldo’s ominous best friend, Andrés (Julio Torres), tries to find his place in the world after appeasing his inner demons (literally). Meanwhile, Uncle Tico (Fred Armisen) is searching for a new purpose after his valet career is derailed.
Saturday Night Live co-creator Lorne Michael serves as an executive producer on the show alongside Armisen and Andrew Singer.
