You may remember a year or so ago now, we passed along word that Warner Bros. was developing a new take on William Golding’s classic novel LORD OF THE FLIES. The planned adaptation came with a fresh twist, turning the stranded group of schoolboys into a stranded group of schoolgirls.
Well, today we hear that this concept has been scrapped and that a new, more text-faithful adaptation of Golding's novel might be heading our way soon from SUSPIRIA (2018) director, Luca Guadagnino who is in negotiations to produce and direct.
Hell, yeah. I hope this happens as not only am I a big fan of Golding's novel, but I thought Guadagnino's take on Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA was f*cking stellar. And if the man can bring even a hint of the beautiful and brutal hand he displayed in that film to a big-budget version of THE LORD OF THE FLIES, well, I'm all over that like flies on a decapitated boar's head! What do you think? Let us know below!
This new version is said to be "true to the text but with a contemporary, ultra-kinetic feel." Meanwhile, William Golding's classic novel followed:
A group of American military schoolboys who become marooned on a remote island after a plane crash. While initially cooperative, after the discovery of a "beast," the boys split into two warring camps, one headed by the liberal-minded Ralph, the other by the militaristic Jack. Their society begins to descend into violence, and boys soon learn there's a thin line between society and savagery.
While there aren't writers currently attached to the project, we do know that, if all the deals go through, Guadagnino and Marco Morabito will produce with Known Universe's Lindsey Beer, Nicole Perlman, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet executive producing. Peter Dodd oversees for the studio.
