Osgood Perkins has earned a following by directing the horror films The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel, plus an episode of The Twilight Zone. Now he has just guaranteed that his next horror project, Longlegs, is going to have even more eyes on it – because he has cast the great Nicolas Cage in the lead role!
In addition to starring in the film, Cage will also be producing Longlegs through his company Saturn Films, which recently had success with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Pig. Also producing are Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan, and Chris Ferguson. Jason Cloth and Fred Berger of Automatik serve as executive producers. Deadline notes that UTA and CAA Media Finance are co-repping worldwide sales on the film.
Perkins wrote the screenplay, but details on the plot are being kept completely under wraps. All anyone involved with the project will give away is that Longlegs is aiming to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.” That’s not much to go on… but for some of us, all we needed to know was that Nicolas Cage was going to be starring in an Osgood Perkins movie and we were already sold on it.
Over the years, Perkins has also worked on the screenplays for the thriller Removal, the crime thriller Cold Comes the Night, and the horror film The Girl in the Photographs. He got his start in the entertainment industry working as an actor, with his first role being an appearance as a young version of his father Anthony Perkins’ character Norman Bates in 1983’s Psycho II. He most recently showed up in Jordan Peele’s “horror epic” Nope as a character named Fynn Bachman.
