So this is cool! Seems that a long-lost George A. Romero film called THE AMUSEMENT PARK – which was originally commissioned by the Lutheran Society to raise awareness about ageism and elder abuse – has been restored by the George A. Romero Foundation and IndieCollect in New York. Here's the official synopsis:
what was perhaps [Romero's] wildest, most imaginative movie, an allegory about the nightmarish realities of growing older. THE AMUSEMENT PARK stars MARTIN’s Lincoln Maazel as an elderly man who finds himself disoriented and increasingly isolated as the pains, tragedies, and humiliations of aging in America manifested through roller coasters and chaotic crowds.
Sounds intriguing! At the very least, the film seems to be retaining the biting social commentary that informed Romero's best films. I'm looking forward to seeing it! Here are some screenshots from the film as well:
Meanwhile, no official release date as of yet, but the film has been picked up for distribution by the NY/LA-based arthouse/genre sales company Yellow Veil Pictures, so we'll definitely keep you guys updated!
