While the divisive Thor: Love and Thunder explored a new arc of the Thunder God trying to find meaning and purpose in his position within the universe, the new season of Loki will also give us a new personal journey for the God of Mischief. Disney released the trailer for season 2 two weeks ago. Now, Marvel Studios gives audiences a look behind the scenes with the new featurette. This year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania featured a post-credits sequence showing a variant of Kang the Conqueror putting on a Tesla-esque display in an early 1900s-era setting. The scene looked to serve as a teaser for what’s to come as clips show this season expanding on that moment.
In the new behind-the-scenes video, Tom Hiddleston talks about how this season is all about Loki learning more about himself. The movies have always shown that beneath his villainous exterior, there is a soul and heart to the character that is generally good, which adds to the drama of this charismatic anti-hero struggling between two natures. Executive producer Kevin R. Wright also explains in the featurette that even though Loki has essentially been an antagonist, his personal journey will involve him learning what true heroism is. Wright also says that this season will take fans into a corner of the MCU that have not been seen before.
Amid the fan-favorite characters that will be returning, we also get a glimpse of the introduction of Ke Huy Quan. The rejuvenated star of Everything, Everywhere, All at Once follows his Oscar win with two Disney+ projects that include this and another series, American Born Chinese. Quan remains as grateful as ever. He professes that he’s been such a big fan of the Marvel Universe, so it is no doubt an honor for him to now be included in the mythology.
Not surprisingly, little is spoken about He Who Remains or Kang, although it has been made clear that the show will proceed with Jonathan Majors in the role as the Creed III star struggles with the recent allegations toward him. There is a shot of him filming his scenes that is featured in the video, so Disney looks to be treading lightly but cannot deny his appearance.
Loki season 2 stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan and Owen Wilson. The new season launches exclusively on Disney+ at on Thursday, October 5.
