CAUTION: THIS STORY CONTAINS A SLIGHT SPOILER FOR THE LOKI FINALE ON DISNEY+.
WandaVision may be a limited series run and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier could also be one and done (although that is open to change) but it looks like Loki will be making a return for a second season. The Disney+ Marvel series will be back for season 2 as its return was revealed during the finale's mid-credits scene.
No additional details were included beyond the title card with the news but, before Loki premiered, it was said that the series could go on with certainty for more than one season, unlike WandaVision or The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Loki is the third of Marvel’s scripted TV series to debut on Disney+ and it has proved to be pretty popular. After its premiere, Samba TV reported that Loki's first episode was the most-watched of the Marvel Disney+ shows to date. To avoid spoilers, I won't go into what happened during the finale but it did set up a continuation that will likely continue in another film and beyond, which makes a second season all the more intriguing.
Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the titular God of Mischief and it takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. He is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a "time-variant", or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. The series also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, and Tara Strong.
Disney and Marvel are seeing continued strong showings from its MCU series so far. Just yesterday, WandaVision scored 23 Emmy nominations including Best Limited Series, and acting nominations for Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Hahn. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier secured 6 Emmy nominations, including a rather surprising nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama category for Don Cheadle's 98-second return as Colonel James Rupert “Rhodey” Rhodes. That's just the power of Marvel I suppose. Marvel’s next Disney+ series will be the animated What If…? on August 11, 2021, and Hawkeye is due in late 2021, with several other Marvel scripted originals such as She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Iron Heart, Secret Invasion, and Wakanda also in various stages of development.
