Loki revealed as the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+; season two begins filming in a few weeks

Marvel released an impressive lineup of shows on the Disney+ streaming service and all of them were pretty well-received. That being said, one has to be a clear winner in terms of viewership, and Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed that Loki has taken that crown.

Per Deadline, when Kevin Feige was premiering the first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law at the Disney upfronts, he confirmed that Loki set the record for the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+. Feige said that Loki’s success was due to a “bold swing” and he believes that a “wild ride paid off.” Marvel’s head-honcho didn’t back up these claims with official viewing numbers but previous data released by Samba TV does back up his claim. Samba TV measures streaming viewership in 3 million terrestrial smart TV households for at least five minutes and they reported that the series premiere of Loki drew 890,000 U.S. households. That set the record as the “largest U.S. premiere-day audience of any of Marvel’s Disney+ shows.” Samba TV went on to say that, at the time of the premiere, “Clearly, the growing number of household tuning in on Day 1 proves that the Marvel Disney+ series are growing in momentum.”

Feige also revealed that season two of Loki would begin filming in the next few weeks. Unlike WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki was not promoted as a mini-series and it was made clear it was a regular show that could get multiple seasons with an after-credits scene during its finale that Loki would be returning for season two. Since filming doesn’t begin until June of 2022, we can probably expect season two in 2023. Michael Waldron, who took on writing duties for season one of Loki and also penned the recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, revealed that Eric Martin would be taking over as head writer for season two and Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will be at the helm.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the titular God of Mischief and it takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. He is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a “time-variant”, or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. The series also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, and Tara Strong.

Are YOU surprised Loki is the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+?
