LOGAN’S RUN had seemingly taken off its running shoes for good when Ryan Gosling departed the project last year. But in Hollywood, nothing is dead forever; when a studio is determined to make a film happen, it makes it happen regardless if there’s any true demand for it. And so it goes that LOGAN’S RUN has been given new life by Warner Bros., which has hired Ken Levine to write a new draft of the screenplay.
Levine’s name will be recognizable to gamers everywhere: the man created the immensely popular BIOSHOCK series. Apparently, Levine is quite passionate about LOGAN’S RUN as a property, and he may be just who the studio has been looking for to rejuvenate the film.
The long-gestating project has gone through a myriad of writers (Will Beall, Alex Garland, Andrew Baldwin) and directors (Bryan Singer, James McTeigue, Carl Erik Rinsch) in its many attempts to get off the ground. Last we heard, Nicolas Winding Refn was still attached, but that could change. (The director has moved on to “Barbarella”.)
LOGAN’S RUN’s synopsis:
It’s the 23rd Century and at age 21… your life is over! Logan-6 has been trained to kill; born and bred from conception to be the best of the best. But his time is short and before his life ends he’s got one final mission: Find and destroy Sanctuary, a fabled haven for those that chose to defy the system. But when Logan meets and falls in love with Jessica, he begins to question the very system he swore to protect and soon they’re both running for their lives. When Last Day comes, will you lie down and die… or run!
