I’m tired of remakes. Especially ones that involves butchering the works of Alfred Hitchcock. We had to suffer through numerous PSYCHO sequels and the terrible shot for shot Gus Van Sant remake. We’ve been told we’re going to be seeing THE BIRDS and have already seen failed attempts at REAR WINDOW. Well now we can look forward to a butchering of Alfred Hitchock’s 1929 silent film, THE LODGER.
Based on the 1912 novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes, the original was about: a killer that stalks london just like Jack The Ripper did and killed young blonde women. His name is ‘The Avenger’.
The remake is being helmed by David Ondaatje, who wants to set it in Los Angeles.
David Ondaatje wants to scare you. In the edge-of-your-seat, heart pounding, what’s-about-to-happen kind of way. David Ondaatje also wants to move you. In the emotionally compelling, heartwarming, will-she-or-won’t-she kind of way. The first time feature filmmaker behind The Lodger has set the bar high with his adaptation of Marie Belloc Lowndes’s 1912 novel, which was the basis for Hitchcock’s 1927 same-titled film. With four successful shorts under his belt, Hope Davis and Alfred Molina on the screen, Michael Mailer in the producer’s chair and David Armstrong behind the camera, Ondaatje has every reason to believe his goal will be met.
Ugh, I don’t know how I feel about this. I’m just tired of the lack of originality plaguing us today. If you’d like to read the interview with the director, click here
