Locke & Key is continuing to have good fortune at Netflix. It has been announced that the streamer has renewed the series for a second season.
The renewal for Locke & Key follows a crazy decade long journey to get this project to the screen. Multiple film and TV incarnations had been in the works over the years, with the Netflix take originally set up at Hulu. Co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill had this to say about the renewal:
“We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke & Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators. We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story."
Cuse and Averill have been prepping scripts for a now-official second season since before the series debuted on the streamer on February 7. The duo has a multiple-season plan in mind for the show although what's uncertain is when the series will actually return for its second season. TV and film production remains mostly shutdown as the world grapples with the novel coronavirus crisis so I assume Netflix will have to watch the situation closely before announcing when work will get started on season 2 and when it will actually premiere.
Locke & Key is based on the comics by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. On the show, after their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestrial home, Keyhouse, where they discover magical keys that may be connected to their father's death. The series stars Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Laysla De Oliveira, Aaron Ashmore, Petrice Jones, and Griffin Gluck.
I haven't dived into this one yet but I've heard nothing but good things so far. With an extended quarantine until April 30, I have nothing but time to add this to the list of shows I'll be watching. Do YOU watch Locke & Key?
