So the solo GAMBIT film has been killed and resurrected…well, about as many times as the average X-Men character. Which is a lot, let's just say that. But it seems that its full-steam ahead now, with Channing Tatum in the lead (replacing Taylor Kitsch from X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE), and Gore Verbinski behind the camera (replacing the previously announced Doug Liman).
Now joining the cast is none other than Lizzy Caplan! She has already had a stint in the Marvel Universe with the MCU's first one-shot ITEM 47. However, since FOX's X-Men series is separate from the MCU (see Josh Brolin playing both Thanos in AVENGERS and Cable in UNTITLED DEADPOOL SEQUEL), that shouldn't be a problem. Also, Caplan is amazing, and her character in MEAN GIRLS is my go-to crush, so this definitely made me more interested in the film.
Now, I was never a fan of Gambit as a kid, because I always thought he was lame. Luckily, while everyone fought on the playground about who got to play as Wolverine, and who got to play as Gambit, I got to play as Nightcrawler unimpeded. But who knows, there's no reason that the film couldn't be good. I mean, I like Tatum, Caplan, and Gore Verbinski, so anything's possible.
Meanwhile, GAMBIT will (supposedly) finally hit theaters Valentine's Day, 2019.
