Welcome, fellow movie nerds, to part one of what is essentially the Super Bowl for Dweebs – the Oscar nominations. Of course, part two is the actual ceremony, wherein pasty folks like myself gather round’ the TV to watch beautiful people get showered in gold. That’s a month from now, however, and this moment is for the nominations. After months of speculating we will finally know who's that much closer to being a champ, and who’s now an official chump. NOW, after much rushing and out-of-context-posting-for-the-sake-of-speed here are the nominees!
LA LA LAND continues its dominance with a tie for most nominations EVER with 14 (tied with ALL ABOUT EVE and TITANIC). Other notables were, as predicted, MOONLIGHT, MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, ARRIVAL and HACKSAW RIDGE. Not a whole lot of surprise nominees, the most shocking being PASSENGERS with two noms (Score and Production Design). A few of the more shocking snubs I noticed were SILENCE for virtually anything (sans Cinematography), nothing for Annette Bening in 20TH CENTURY WOMEN, no Best Song for SING STREET, and Tom Hanks not getting anything for SULLY. AND NO AMY ADAMS FOR ARRIVAL?! Also notable is the absense of DEADPOOL, which frankly was expected, but I at least thought we'd see a Makeup nomination.
