After proving to be a director to take notice of with her incredible work on the movie LADY BIRD, Greta Gerwig is back with her latest directorial effort with a new adaptation of the classic novel, LITTLE WOMEN. Centering on the life of the March sisters, this new film version (the eighth adaptation. to be exact) features an all-star cast featuring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson,Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep, and the first trailer is here to tease a glimpse at how Gerwig and the cast brought this classic story from Louisa May Alcott to life.

Gerwig first became attached to the project after being brought in to re-write the script written by Sarah Polley, and was then brought on to direct after the success of LADY BIRD, which earned her a nomination for Best Director in 2018. This new version won't tackle the story head-on with a straight adaptation, but rather bounce between different points in the March sisters lives as they move into adulthood.
While in a period setting, what is most absorbing about the trailer, aside from the glimpses at some excellent performances, is that the movie seems modern in its dialogue and humor. That doesn't mean there's modern vernacular being tossed around, but rather the humor and pacing feel very much in line with what Gerwig showcased in LADY BIRD. That style is exactly what this story needs to connect with new audiences who may be unfamiliar with the material, and this could be another acclaimed hit for Gerwig as a writer/director.
