Not only does it look like Warner Bros. has a new feature adaptation of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS in the works, but today we're hearing some interesting casting rumors. First, it seems that the new filmmakers are looking to cast Emmy-winning Billy Porter as the man-eating plant Audrey II.
More interesting still is the rumors that say, Ben Platt, Harry Styles, Zac Efron, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been rumored for the role of Seymour.
And Lady Gaga as Audrey.
We're not sure if this is all connected to the version Warner Bros. announced three years ago with Greg Berlanti directing a script by Matthew Robinson, but we'll let you know when we hear more on that. Either way, this new adaptation of the Roger Corman cult classic seems to be a big priority for Warner Bros. so expect to hear more soon.
Until then remember that the last time we saw the killer plant on the big screen was back in director Frank Oz's 1986 remake which centered on
Meek flower shop assistant Seymour (Rick Moranis) pines for co-worker Audrey (Ellen Greene). During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey's boyfriend, Orin (Steve Martin), to the plant after Orin's accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.
Frank Oz directed LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986) from a screenplay written by Howard Ashman. David Geffen produced and it starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Steve Martin. Warner Bros. released it back on December 19, 1986. Buy it on Blu-ray HERE.
