The Little Drummer Girl trailer: Park Chan-wook’s new series gets first look

After years of delivering spell-binding, gripping and often strange movies like OLDBOY, THE HANDMAIDEN and SNOWPIERCER (as a producer), director Park Chan-wook is heading to TV with the miniseries THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL. An adaptation of the John le Carre novel, the series with Michael Shannon, Alexander Skarsgard and Florence Pugh has gotten its first gripping trailer filled with plenty of intrigue and suspense, all sprinkled with a little gunplay, sex, a few explosions and Shannon with quite the hairdo and mustache. He’s the only man around who can look that intimidating with that haircut.

The six-episode series is directed by Chan-wook and the first two-hour episode will air on AMC on November 19, with more two-hour episodes following on November 20 and 21. The series looks as exciting and suspensful as anything from the director, even if the network distribution means he doesn’t get to showcase the kinds of R-rated thrills and chills his movies in the past have. Can’t beat that cast though, and much like THE NIGHT MANAGER (the same executive producers are working here), this could be a show that nabs several awards and earns a place as must-see TV.

Here is the synopsis:

 “The Little Drummer Girl" weaves an explosive story of espionage and international intrigue; of love and betrayal. Brilliant young actress Charlie (Pugh) strikes up an acquaintance with an intriguing stranger while on vacation in Greece, but it rapidly becomes apparent that his intentions are far from romantic.  The man is Becker (Skarsgård), an Israeli intelligence officer, who entangles her in a complex and high stakes plot orchestrated by Spymaster, Kurtz (Shannon).

THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL debuts on AMC November 19.
