#1 – THE ROCKETEER 2
YEARS SINCE THE ROCKETEER: 23
Both Jennifer Connelly and Billy Campbell have worked steadily in the years since Disney released this under-appreciated superhero movie. Joe Johnston used a similar tone and style to make CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER one of Marvel’s most fun movies to date. Why not reunite the trio to realize the further adventures of the masked hero with the rocket pack we all dreamed would become a reality.
#2 – WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT 2
YEARS SINCE WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?: 26
This film seemed impossible after the passing of the great Bob Hoskins and yet I would still love to see the further adventures of all the characters that populate ToonTown. A modern noir that is without equal, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? remains one of the most unique films ever made. Here is hoping someone figures out a respectful way to carry on the story even three decades after the original.
#3 – THE INCREDIBLES 2
YEARS SINCE THE INCREDIBLES: 10
Brad Bird is making his second live action film in the form of Disney’s anticipated TOMORROWLAND, but we all really want to see him continue the story of Mr. Incredible and his family. Disney and Pixar have teased it is being looked at and with all of the other sequels they are doing, this one should be a top priority. After that, make THE IRON GIANT 2!
#4 – KING CONAN
YEARS SINCE CONAN THE DESTROYER: 30
Arnold Schwarzenegger just finished filming his return to THE TERMINATOR and rumors have abounded that CONAN is next. I will believe it when I see it, but revisiting his warrior king at the twilight of his life is both fitting at this stage of the actor’s career and the perfect way to continue the franchise organically. Here’s hoping John Milius can be involved in some way.
#5 – UNBREAKABLE 2
YEARS SINCE UNBREAKABLE: 14
M. Night Shyamalan doesn’t have many films worthy of a sequel, but the Bruce Willis/Samuel L. Jackson superhero movie would be the perfect candidate. The film has already established a hero and a villain and just needs a story worth telling. Shyamalan could use this as an opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of fans, even after the awful AFTER EARTH and THE LAST AIRBENDER.
#6 – BEETLEJUICE 2
YEARS SINCE BEETLEJUICE: 26
Tim Burton has had an up and down career over the past three decades, but BEETLEJUICE still remains one of his most beloved films. While fans have wanted a follow-up to PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, BEETLEJUICE is the one that has the most cast-members wanting a reunion. Burton is up for it, Michael Keaton is too. Even Winona Ryder hasn’t ruled it out. Let’s make it happen!
#7 – ALIEN 5
YEARS SINCE ALIEN: RESURRECTION: 17
Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s fourth film in the ALIEN franchise was the last to star Sigourney Weaver and the last to be considered canon by many fans. Ridley Scott returned with the sidequel PROMETHEUS a couple of years ago that exists in the same universe as the Xenomorphs, but it is not a true addition to the original series. This year’s ALIEN: ISOLATION game has stirred talk of Weaver returning for a fifth chapter as Ripley and we can only hope it actually happens.
#8 – ZOOLANDER 2
YEARS SINCE ZOOLANDER: 13
A movie that should have been a disaster ended up being one of the funniest movies of Ben Stiller’s career. Ridiculous and over the top, ZOOLANDER could have been his AUSTIN POWERS, but Stiller instead tried several other projects and ideas. He has promised us ZOOLANDER 2 for years now, but with the actor committed to so many projects, it may never happen.
#9 – SUPER TROOPERS 2
YEARS SINCE SUPER TROOPERS: 13
Broken Lizard has released several funny movies like CLUB DREAD and BEERFEST but fans have been clamoring for more misadventures from Spurbury, Vermont. Talk of a crowdfunding campaign have been percolating for a while now but with each passing year, each actor has other projects that keep them from making this a reality. Brian Cox better come back.
#10 – HELLBOY III
YEARS SINCE HELLBOY II: 6
Gullermo Del Toro could possibly be the only filmmaker worthy of bringing HELLBOY to the big screen and we are incredibly lucky to have gotten two films featuring Ron Perlman in the lead. But, while Perlman and others are game for a third chapter to wrap up the series, Del Toro does not seem as optimistic. But, he also didn’t seem to think PACIFIC RIM 2 was going to happen and that film is on it’s way.
