The Apple TV+ mini-series based on the Stephen King novel Lisey's Story (buy a copy HERE) is six episodes into its eight episode run, with the last two episodes set to debut on July 9th and July 16th. If you've been watching the show and have been dazzled by the visuals, you'll want to check out the behind-the-scenes featurette embedded above. The focus of this featurette is how director Pablo Larraín and the crew took on the challenge of bringing King's concept of the fantasy world Boo'ya Moon to the screen.
King wrote all of the scripts for the mini-series, which is a
deeply personal, pensive thriller that follows Lisey Landon (played by Julianne Moore) two years after the death of her husband, famous novelist Scott Landon (played by Clive Owen). A series of unsettling events causes Lisey to face memories of her marriage to Scott that she has deliberately blocked out of her mind.
Joan Allen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dane DeHaan, Sung Kang, and Michael Pitt are also in the cast.
Here's how the Stephen King Wiki describes Boo'ya Moon:
Lisey Landon's late husband, Scott Landon, had the strange ability to travel between the real world and the fantastical world, Boo'ya Moon. In his novels, he referred to it as Banella to make the name sound less childish, according to Lisey.
Boo'ya Moon is a beautiful, peaceful place with a big lake. Many veiled people sit around the stone steps that surround the lake. However, the people there live in fear of the "long boy" and try to stay quiet to not disturb him. The lake has healing waters that help people heal their cut wounds quickly.
Scott is able to access the fantasy world by running water, such as sink taps or bath tubs.
An Apple Original limited series, Lisey's Story is a collaboration between Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. King, Moore, and Larrain are executive producers on the show, alongside J.J. Abrams, Ben Stephenson, and Juan de Dios Larrain.
I haven't been watching Lisey's Story as the episodes have been released, but I watch everything King-related sooner or later, so I'll be getting around to this one.
