Author Stieg Larsson passed away before his "Millennium" trilogy of novels – THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS' NEST – were published, but the characters he created have lived on beyond his stories, returning in the pages of the novels THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB and THE GIRL WHO TAKES AN EYE FOR AN EYE, written by David Lagercrantz.
The stories of Larsson's characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist have also continued in comic book form, and later this year Titan Comics will be releasing the three-issue series THE GIRL WHO DANCED WITH DEATH – MILLENNIUM.
Written by Sylvain Runberg and illustrated by Belen Ortega, THE GIRL WHO DANCED WITH DEATH tells a story
in which Salander’s friend Trinity is kidnapped, leading her to recruit Mikael Blomkvist to investigate what happened, and discover the secret of a group known only as Sparta.
The series was first published in French in 2016. The Titan Comics publication will be the first time the story has been told in English.
The first issue of Titan's THE GIRL WHO DANCED WITH DEATH is scheduled to reach store shelves on August 15th (a digital version will be released on that date as well). The Hollywood Reporter has shared a preview of a couple pages from the comic, and those can be seen below.
Lisbeth Salander has been brought to life on the screen through Swedish adaptations of the Millennium trilogy that starred Noomi Rapace and David Fincher's 2011 version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, which starred Rooney Mara as the character (pictured above). Claire Foy takes on the role of Salander in director Fede Alvarez's adaptation of THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, which is set to reach theatres on November 9th.
Fincher's film was my way into this series, and it made me interested in learning more about Lisbeth Salander through the books and other movies. I'll be reading THE GIRL WHO DANCED WITH DEATH at some point so I can keep up with her story.
