Back in November we shared the first image from Craig Zobel's adaptation of Robert C. O’Brien’s post-apocalyptic 1974 novel Z FOR ZACHARIAH which featured stars Margot Robbie, Chris Pine, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Now The Wrap has learned that Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have partnered to release the film later this year.
Z FOR ZACHARIAH is set to screen in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, January 24, and I'm sure we'll be hearing a release date for it shortly afterward.
Z for Zachariah is a psychological thriller, set after an apocalyptic event, that centers on a woman (Robbie) who is seemingly the sole survivor until a scientist (Ejiofor) finds her farm, and the two fall in love. Another survivor, a young man (Pine), surfaces, complicating matters.
This isn't the first time Z FOR ZACHARIAH has been brought to life onscreen. In February 1984, the BBC presented a film adaptation for its "Play for Today" series, in which the setting was changed from America to Wales.
Grindstone Entertainment will present the sci-fi thriller, which was executive produced by the company’s Barry Brooker and Stan Wertlieb. Zobel directed from a script by Nissan Modi, and the film was produced by Material Pictures’ Tobey Maguire and Matthew Plouffe, Palomar Pictures’ Joni Sighvatsson and Zik Zak Filmsworks’ Skuli Malmqvist and Thor Sigurjonsson, as well as Sophia Lin.
