Lionsgate removes Janelle Monae’s Antebellum from release schedule

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Antebellum, Janelle Monae

Another tale in the lengthy saga of movies which have had their release dates shuffled around numerous times due to COVID-19. The time-bending thriller ANTEBELLUM was slated to hit theaters on April 24th, but as we know, COVID-19 had other plans and Lionsgate pushed the film back to August 21st, seemingly confident that the world would be back to normal by that date; HA! The studio announced today that they have now removed ANTEBELLUM from their schedule entirely, with no indication on when the film will finally drop.

Written and directed by Gerard Bush & Christopher Renz, ANTEBELLUM stars Janelle Monáe as Veronica Henley, a successful writer who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it's too late. The trailers which we've seen so far are certainly intriguing, and I'm absolutely down for whatever it is ANTEBELLUM is selling.

The official synopsis for ANTEBELLUM:

Successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late. ANTEBELLUM is a terrifying new thriller from the producer of the acclaimed films GET OUT and US, and groundbreaking directors Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (Bush+Renz) – an exciting new voice in filmmaking.

As for when ANTEBELLUM will hit theaters, like anything involving this pandemic, it's hard to say.
