Shows created by Taylor Sheridan always have impressive casts. You’ve got Kevin Costner on Yellowstone, Jeremy Renner on Mayor of Kingstown, Sam Elliott on 1883, Sylvester Stallone on Tulsa King, Harrison Ford on 1923, etc. The upcoming Paramount+ series Lioness is no exception. We’ve previously heard that the cast of this one would include the likes of Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña, and now Morgan Freeman has signed on to join them!
Deadline reports that Freeman will be taking on the role of Edwin Mullins, the United States Secretary of State.
Coming our way from Taylor Sheridan, MTV Entertainment Studios, and 101 Studios, Lioness is based on a real-life CIA program. The show will follow Cruz Manuelos, a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.
Cruz Manuelos is played by Laysla De Oliveira. Saldaña is playing Joe, “the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives.” Kidman’s character is Kaitlyn Meade, “the CIA’s Senior Supervisor who has had a long career of playing the politics game. She must juggle the trappings of being a woman in the high-ranking intelligence community, a wife that longs for the attention she herself can’t even give and a mentor to someone veering suspiciously close to the same rocky road she’s found herself on.” Also in the cast are Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, and Hannah Love Lanier.
Saldaña, Kidman, and Sheridan are executive producing Lioness alongside David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone, and John Hillcoat.
Are you a fan of Sheridan’s work, and are you looking forward to Lioness? I have seen the movies Sheridan has written (Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Without Remorse, Those Who Wish Me Dead), but I have yet to watch a single episode of any of his TV shows. But they’re getting so much hype, I’m going to be checking them out soon. Lioness is sounding really interesting to me – and, of course, Morgan Freeman is a great addition to any cast.
