As of today, INSIDE directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel LEATHERFACE is available for viewing exclusively on DirecTV. Coinciding with the release, a clip has arrived online to give us a little preview of the film.
The story begins with a young member of the murderous Sawyer family being taken away to a mental hospital. That's the moment seen in this clip, as Sawyer matriarch Verna, played by Lili Taylor, demands that a Texas ranger played by Stephen Dorff let the boy go. There are very different acting styles on display here; Dorff is teetering on the edge of over-the-top, while Taylor's performance feels quite real.
Written by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE has the following synopsis:
In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
Dorff and Taylor's co-stars include Vanessa Grasse, Sam Strike, Jessica Madsen, Finn Jones, James Bloor, Nicole Andrews, Julian Kostov, and Sam Coleman.
If you have DirecTV, you can watch LEATHERFACE right now. If not, don't worry – the film will be receiving a wider VOD and limited theatrical release on October 20th.
