Liarmouth: John Waters to direct and write an adaptation of his “craziest” novel

John Waters, the mad genius behind films like HairsprayCry-BabySerial Mom, and Pecker, is getting back behind the camera for Liarmouth, an adaptation of his “craziest” novel. Waters is partnering with Village Roadshow Pictures for his first time directing since 2004’s A Dirty Shame.

“Liarmouth is the craziest thing I’ve written in a while so maybe it’s fitting that my novel was shocking enough to jumpstart the engine of my film career,” Waters said about his novel Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance. “Thrilled to be back in the movie business, hopefully to spread demented joy to adventuresome moviegoers around the world.”

The description of Waters’ Liarmouth novel says the book is a “hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction.” Here’s the official synopsis via Amazon:

Marsha Sprinkle: Suitcase thief. Scammer. Master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her Liarmouth―until one insane man makes her tell the truth.

Other films helmed by Waters include Eat Your MakeupMultiple ManiacsPink FlamingosFemale Trouble, and Cecil B. Demented, to name a few. Waters is known for his flamboyant persona, wild imagination, and unique approach to cinema. He is one of Hollywood’s most respected filmmakers who often flaunts the rules of convention and breaks all the rules. If Liarmouth is half as outrageous as his other tales of twisted romance, fans will be in for a treat.

What’s your favorite movie directed by John Waters? I’m a fan of Hairspray and Serial Mom, though I also think Pink Flamingos and Pecker are daring and delightfully demented. Let us know if you’re excited about John Waters getting back behind the camera for Liarmouth in the comments section.
