Liam Neeson’s Taken 2 to slide down your chimney in digital HD in time for Christmas

If you happened to miss Liam Neeson kicking ass and taking names in this fall’s TAKEN 2, then get ready to bubble with holiday cheer as the sequel is being released early in digital HD on December 18, 2012, just in time to download on whatever new device you get from Jolly St. Nick.

“America will wake up on Christmas morning to more than 16 million new connected devices under the tree this year, making it the year of the connected consumer,” said Mike Dunn, President, Fox Home Entertainment. “The unprecedented explosion of smartphones, tablets and smart TVs give ‘Taken 2’ a great runway to reach more than 110 million active movie viewers across all of our Digital HD™ retail partners.”

“Our aim is simple: we want TAKEN 2 to be the first movie you enjoy on your new device on Christmas morning,” added Mary Daily, President of Worldwide Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer, Fox Home Entertainment. “Early access, HD quality and availability across digital stores at an affordable price are together a very compelling consumer proposition.”

Fox first launched this initiative with this summer’s PROMETHEUS, releasing that film three weeks earlier than it’s blu-ray/DVD street date and had great success.  With more and more consumers using digital streaming or digital downloads (myself included) the market is becoming more and more viable.

I’m looking forward to seeing TAKEN 2 and I purposefully waited to see it on video, because I knew they’d release an unrated version, just like the first film, which was far superior in that format.  A PG-13 Liam Neeson destroying European gangster’s lives isn’t anywhere near as good as an unrated one.

The blu-ray/DVD features include:

  • Unrated and Theatrical Cut
  • Black Ops Field Manual and Kill Counter
  • Tools of the Trade
  • Deleted and Extended Scenes
  • Alternative Ending
  • FX Piece
  • DVD/Digital Copy
  • UltraViolet

TAKEN 2 hits HD digital download on December 18, 2012 and then hits shelves on blu-ray/DVD on January 15, 2013.
