Liam Neeson just can’t stay away. Despite claiming that he was retiring from action movies on several occasions, Neeson can’t help but use his particular set of skills to take on the bad guys. I ain’t mad though. Deadline has reported that Liam Neeson is set to play a “newly retired assassin” for the Ireland-set thriller In The Land Of Saints And Sinners.
In The Land Of Saints And Sinners will be set in a remote Irish village as Liam Neeson’s assassin character finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists. Ciarán Hinds, who most recently starred in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, is also on board to star in the movie alongside Liam Neeson. The project is set to be directed by Robert Lorenz, who previously helmed The Marksman, which starred Neeson as a rancher protecting a young boy on the run from a deadly Mexican cartel. Production on In The Land of Saints And Sinners is expected to kick off in Ireland in March 2022.
As for Liam Neeson’s supposed “retirement,” the actor turned 69 this year and he previously said that he likely only has a couple of more in the pipeline before he has to call it quits unless he’s “on a Zimmer frame or something.” When that fateful day does come, Neeson said that he’ll miss the thrill of doing action movies. “I love doing them,” Neeson said. “I love beating up guys half my age.“
Liam Neeson will next be seen in Blacklight, which is, you guessed it, another action film. Neeson plays Travis Block, a troubled, off-the-books fixer for the FBI who is tasked with pulling undercover agents out of dangerous situations. He finds himself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy when one such agent questions the very people he is working for. Blacklight is set to be released on February 11, 2022.
