I was wondering how long it would take for Liam Neeson to have another project on the go and now the workhorse has resolved my curiosity. Neeson has joined the big screen adaptation of Patrick Ness' A MONSTER CALLS. The fantasy drama will be directed by J. A. Bayona whose past works include THE IMPOSSIBLE, THE ORPHANAGE and he is currently set to direct the sequel to WORLD WAR Z.
Here’s a synopsis of the book:
A MONSTER CALLS tells the story of a boy, haunted by the tree that lives outside of his house- as the tree comes to life every night in the form of a monster that tells him scary stories. The unlikely bond that forms between them gives the story a unique twist, as the monster's dark tales soon become a way of helping the boy cope with some of life's harsh truths including his mother’s declining health and school bullies.
Well sleeping was fun wasn’t it? Just reading that gave me the heebie jeebies, but damn if it doesn’t sound intriguing. Neeson will voice the monster in question and joins the already cast Felicity Jones in the movie. Belen Atienza is producing which is great to hear considering he produced Guillermo del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, another dark coming-of-age story.
I will definitely be keeping this on my radar; it appropriately is set to come out in time for Halloween in October 2016.
