Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg in talks to star in Vincenzo Natali’s Neuromancer

Vincenzo Natali’s adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk classic NEUROMANCER has been in suspended animation for quite a while now, but if the latest news are anything to go by, the project is finally getting off the ground. As reported by Moviehole, the flick might soon score itself its first big name cast members with Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg. As the site discloses, “nobody has officially signed for the project, but the offers are on the table”.

If you’re not familiar with the novel, its story goes a little something like this:

Case was the hottest computer cowboy cruising the information superhighway–jacking his consciousness into cyberspace, soaring through tactile lattices of data and logic, rustling encoded secrets for anyone with the money to buy his skills. Then he double-crossed the wrong people, who caught up with him in a big way–and burned the talent out of his brain, micron by micron. Banished from cyberspace, trapped in the meat of his physical body, Case courted death in the high-tech underworld. Until a shadowy conspiracy offered him a second chance–and a cure–for a price…

The idea of a film adaptation has been thrown around for years, but now it finally seems like it might come to fruition. Apart from Natali, whom you might know from the eerie sci-fi horror SPLICE, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is also involved in the project. While no dates have been set yet, production will supposedly start after the director is done with HAUNTER. A preliminary release date of 2014 has been mentioned.
