Following the death of long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek last year, fans were left mourning his passing and wondering if anyone could ever fill his shoes as the host, but since then, we've seen a variety of guest-hosts step into the role, including Ken Jennings, Katie Couric, Aaron Rodgers, Mayim Bialik, and more, but one person who fans have actively campaigned for is LeVar Burton.
Well, that hard work has paid off as Jeopardy! producers have announced their final slate of guest hosts for the 37th season, which just so happens to include LeVar Burton! "THANK YOU… to all y’all for your passionate support!" wrote Burton on Twitter. "I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to be guest-hosting Jeopardy!, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith you in me. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and take my word for it, this time." In addition to LeVar Burton, the other remaining guest hosts include Good Morning America co-host George Stephanopoulos, his fellow Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, co-host of CNBC's Squawk on the Street David Faber, and Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck. In a statement, Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards said:
Our goal has been to present a wide variety of guest hosts with different skill sets and backgrounds on our path to finding a permanent host. Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening. All of the guest hosts have brought individualism, energy and an authentic love of our show to each of their episodes. We look forward to sharing the rest of the season with our viewers.
A permanent replacement for Alex Trebek hasn't yet been announced, but it's not hard to imagine that producers will be paying attention to how well these guest hosts have been received. While I doubt that anyone could really replace Trebek, I'm definitely onboard with LeVar Burton taking on the gig. Who would you like to see host Jeopardy! on a permanent basis?
