Letitia Wright opens up about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set accident

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Letitia Wright, set accident

The road to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever certainly wasn’t easy. In addition to the unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman, production on the Black Panther sequel actually had to shut down for several months due to Letitia Wright being injured on the set. While speaking with Variety, Letitia Wright opened up about the “traumatic” accident she suffered on the Black Panther set.

The accident in question occurred while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was shooting in Boston. Producer Nate Moore said that Letitia Wright was shooting a chase sequence on a motorcycle placed on a biscuit rig when the rig “clipped a median and sheared the bike off, and it tumbled,” leaving the actress with a fractured shoulder, a concussion, and other injuries. “I’m still processing it,” Wright said. “I’m still working through it in therapy. It was really traumatic.” As the accident happened during second unit shooting, director Ryan Coogler wasn’t on set at the time and had to be informed over the phone. “It was about how you can imagine,” Coogler said. “I mean, I love these actors. That’s me and Chad’s little sister. Imagine getting that call that your little sister’s hurt. It’s the fucking worst thing in the world.

When Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige visited Letitia Wright in the hospital after the accident, she was ready to get back to work, but it soon became apparent she would need more time to recover. When production did finally resume in January 2022, Wright was still dealing with post-concussion syndrome, but said that she had “great, great, great medical support, great patience on set. I’m just extremely proud of myself. I’m extremely proud of Ryan, of the team, for just the resilience — overcoming adversities every step of the way. When I finished filming, I cried like a little baby.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will open in theaters on November 11th, so be sure to check out a review from our own JimmyO!
