Having paid homage to classic Italian giallos with their first two films, AMER and THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS, Belgian writing/directing duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani have shifted their focus over to paying homage to classic Italian crime thrillers with their third feature, LET THE CORPSES TAN.
Based on a pulp novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, LET THE CORPSES TAN is described as being "a deliriously stylish cinematic fever dream that will slamfire your senses like buckshot to the brain". Sounds like a hell of a viewing experience. The story it tells:
After stealing a truckload of gold bars, a gang of thieves absconds to the ruins of a remote village perched on the cliffs of the Mediterranean. Home to a reclusive yet hypersexual artist and her motley crew of family and admirers, it seems like a perfect hideout. But when two cops roll up on motorcycles to investigate, the hamlet erupts into a hallucinatory battlefield as both sides engage in an all-day, all-night firefight rife with double-crosses and dripping with blood.
Kino Lorber is planning to give the film a theatrical release on August 31st, when it will be opening at the Quad Cinemas and Alamo Drafthouse in New York City, as well as the Landmark Nuart in Los Angeles.
In anticipation of this release, the company has unveiled an awesome poster for the film, along with a trailer that is similar to one that has been available for a while, but this one has English text rather than French. These materials can be seen below.
AMER and THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS weren't for me, but LET THE CORPSES TAN looks quite promising. The trailer boasts gorgeous cinematography, great locations, and a whole lot of action and violence.
Own our Eric Walkuski got to see the movie at Fantastic Fest last year and gave it a 7/10 review.
