Leonardo DiCaprio exits Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic

Earlier this year, David Fincher quit the Aaron Sorkin-scripted Steve Jobs biopic he was developing at Sony because the studio didn’t want Christian Bale for the lead. At least, that is the rumor. After Fincher’s exit, Leonardo DiCaprio and Danny Boyle jumped on board to produce/star and direct, respectively. Now, that is changing as well.

Due to commitments on other projects, DiCaprio is leaving the biopic as both star and producer, leaving Sony trying to find a replacement for Boyle’s film. Guess who they have on their shortlist? Christian Bale.

The highly anticipated project is also looking for stars like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, or Bradley Cooper to take the Apple founder role, but all three of those actors have recently signed onto big films. The question now lingers as to whether this film can get off the ground or not. Boyle is a solid director, but a movie like this hinges on the lead performance. Going with an unknown could be risky, but casting the wrong major star could as well.

Interesting to note is that aside from planned projects that Leonardo DiCaprio has in the pipeline, his departure from this movie may also be due to a substantial break from acting. Looks like we may be losing on every front here.
