Some sad news here today as we just got word that Leo the cat AKA Church from Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer's chilling new adaptation of Stephen King's PET SEMATARY has passed away. His owner took to Instagram to let us all in on the sad news, writing:
It is with deep sadness that we tell you that Leo has passed away. He will forever be missed by his human and fur family. May his star always shine bright!!
You can check out the actual Instagram post below, you know, if you want to shed a tear this afternoon. This is all particularly sad as new Church was one of the best aspects of this remake. Poor widdle guy. I'm reminded of a quote from King's original novel:
Cats were the gangsters of the animal world, living outside the law and often dying there. There were a great many of them who never grew old by the fire.
Directed by Kolsch and Widmyer, PET SEMATARY stars Jason Clarke as Louis Creed, Amy Seimetz as Rachel Creed, Hugo and Lucas Lavoie as Gage Creed, Jeté Laurence as Ellie Creed, Obssa Ahmed as Victor Pascow, Alyssa Brooke Levine as Zelda, and John Lithgow as Jud.
Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
The remake has been rated R via the MPAA for "horror violence, bloody images, and some language." The new adaptation PET SEMATARY comes home from Paramount on Digital June 25, 2019, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Video-On-Demand July 9. Pre-order HERE.
