Legions trailer: Argentine film inspired by The Evil Dead reaches the U.S. this month

Earlier today, we saw the trailer for Evil Dead Rise, the latest official entry in the Evil Dead franchise. Now we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for writer/director Fabián Forte’s’s film Legions, which is described as being “an unabashed love letter to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead series”! You can check it out in the embed above.

Legions has been enjoying a successful festival run in recent months, and now XYZ Films is preparing to give the film a VOD release in North America on January 19th.

Said to be “gory, hilarious, and heartwarming”, Legions has the following synopsis: A powerful sorcerer, Antonio Poyju, is locked away in an asylum, and wastes away in his imprisonment as evil, demonic forces take control of Argentina. If Antonio can escape the psychiatric hospital and find his daughter, Helena, their combined strength could save Argentina… but Helena has forgotten her powers. Now Antonio must reteach her the ways of magic… and be humanity’s last hope against ancient evil!

Produced by Javier Diaz, the Argentine film stars Germán De Silva, Mauro Altschuler, Moro Anghileri, María Laura Cali, Marta Haller, Ezequiel Rodríguez, Demián Salomón, and Lorena Vega.

A press release notes that Legion is an “Argentinian folk-horror powderkeg” that is “rich with cultural vibrancy, all the while dwelling on the important role of heritage and belief in the mystical.” And if that’s not enough to sell you on it, it also features slapstick gore and a whole lot of heart.

Forte previously directed the films Cantantes en Guerra, Dead Man Tells His Own Tale, Socios por accidente, Socios por accidente 2, La corporación, Celo, and Mala carne. He was also assistant director on the popular 2017 horror film Terrified, and had an acting role in it.
