So much epic news…too fast for my computer to handle…
Another GODZILLA update has made it’s way around the internet folks. Now last month Eric Walkuski mentioned a few key things that is still holding true now. Latino Review writes that a certain film called PACIFIC RIM that was discussed back in May is being considered to be merged with the new GODZILLA reboot. Here’s the synopsis that Eric also brought to us then:
Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.
What Legendary Pictures are going to do is basically take PACIFIC RIM and insert GODZILLA somewhere between “advanced technology” and “to eradicate the growing menace.” Soak that in for a second. Remember that little tidbit about Godzilla beating the living crap out of a gang of other monsters? Yeah, that’s the intention here. It’s definitely starting to sound as if this new film will pay real homage to the original.
So if you were a fan of the whole PACIFIC RIM idea, you’re still getting it but now it’s going to have a giant city destroying lizard. Be happy, be very happy folks. No word on whether PACIFIC RIM will be the new title or not (I kinda dig it) but what we do know is that one of the early drafts for the GODZILLA flick was not good. At all. Legendary Pictures then decided to find a director who would be willing to work with the story thoroughly. This doesn’t sound like another studio slapping a project up. So who do you think Legendary is turning to when it comes to a tent-pole film about monsters destroying others monsters…and earth along with it?
Guillermo “f*cking” Del Toro!
Legendary Pictures, it seems, has stepped forward and offered the job to direct the film to Del Toro as they saw he was capable of handling such a feat. Keep note, however, that Legendary offered the job but word is not official on whether or not he’ll take it. If Del Toro ultimately decides to work on his current project (out of the laundry list of other projects) then the reboot will either be put in hiatus for him to return (after HELLBOY 3…if he does it) or it will switch hands to another director. However, if Del Toro steps up to the plate to take his swing with the mighty reboot then he would have spent a good two years or so working on it in full detail that his other projects would most likely have to be pushed back. You know how well he combs through his films. Decisions, decisions…
We’ll find out relatively soon what the answer may be. What do you think of this offer? PACIFIC RIM for GODZILLA sound good to you guys? Del Toro as director? Strike down below and let us know!
