Moments ago, the sad news of actor Miguel Ferrer’s passing has cast a shadow on an already intense afternoon. Famous for lending his unique talents to a wide array of both live-action and animated film projects, the legendary actor passed on after fighting to the end against cancer. He was 61-years-old.
As the son of Oscar-winning Cyrano de Bergerac actor Jose Ferrer and Rosemary Clooney (yes, he is indeed George Clooney’s cousin), Miguel was poised to once again fill the shoes of FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield when David Lynch’s TWIN PEAKS revival premieres on May 21, 2017 courtesy of Showtime.
As a man of several talents, Miguel’s legacy will continue to live on through his contributions to over 40 films, as well as an impressive amount of TV shows. In addition to appearing in a plethora of live-action roles for films like ROBOCOP, IRON MAN 3, and SUNSHINE STATE, Ferrer’s iconic voice can be heard in animated projects like ADVENTURE TIME, YOUNG JUSTICE, ROBOT CHICKEN, as well as several more.
Coming into his own during the 1980s, Miguel Ferrer began his career with a series of guest-spots on notable programs such as MAGNUM P. I., CHiPS, and CAGNEY & LACEY. He then leveled up as a featured actor in films such as THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE, THE HARVEST, HEARTBREAKER, and POINT OF NO RETURN, among others. After paying several dues, and earning quite the name for himself, Ferrer secured a role in the NBC drama series CROSSING JORDAN. After participating on the program for several years, CROSSING JORDAN came to an end, freeing Miguel up for a role opposite Meg Ryan in the nine-episode series BIONIC WOMAN.
Then, in 2012, Ferrer landed what’s considered by many to be his most notable role as Owen Granger on the mega-popular CBS crime drama NCIS: LOS ANGELES. Throughout the course of the series, Ferrer’s character ebbed and flowed in terms of likability. That said, many became quite fond of Ferrer’s Granger as time went on, securing his character as one that has been unforgettable and essential to the show's storied quality.
Ferrer is survived by his wife Lori, sons Lukas and Rafi and his brothers and sisters.
We here at Joblo would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Miguel’s family, friends, and fans. His contributions to the entertainment world will never be forgotten, and we wish him safe passage into the great unknown.
