Over the weekend Legendary Pictures surprised us all with the announcement of the King Kong origin story SKULL ISLAND at SDCC and now we've learned who Legendary wants to helm the project.
Deadline is reporting that Legendary has offered the director's chair to ATTACK THE BLOCK helmer Joe Cornish, but there is no word yet as to whether or not he has accepted the offer.
GODZILLA scribe Max Borenstein is writing the script for SKULL ISLAND based on the mythic origins of King Kong, where mutant giant creatures rule. Legendary released the following statement following the SDCC panel:
“Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”
Do you think Cornish is a good fit for SKULL ISLAND? I think he's an interesting choice as his ATTACK THE BLOCK was a very fun flick. We'll keep you posted on news regarding SKULL ISLAND as we hear it.
